The Dolphins have signed two former first-round tackles, Isaiah Wynn and Cedric Ogbuehi. Two depth additions that put the current roster at 90. The Dolphins offensive line has been the biggest position of need for awhile now, Wynn and Ogbuehi both bring much needed veteran depth with potential upside to the line.
Wynn, 27, formally with the Patriots, has appeared in 43 games with 40 starts since 2019, including seven starts last season with New England. Over the last four seasons, Wynn has spent time at left guard and right tackle, Miami's biggest needs on the offensive line. Injuries seem to have haunted Wynn over his NFL career, dealing with a torn achilles as a rookie as well as foot and knee injuries.
Ogbuehi, 31, just re-signed with the Jets last month but was released four days ago. Ogbuehi has started in 35 of his 67 total games played during his eight-year NFL career. Most recently with the Jets, Ogbuehi has also spent time with Bengals, Jaguars, Seahawks, Ravens, Titans and Texans. In 2022, in New York, Ogbuehi appeared in seven games and started five at right tackle, allowing one sack during that time.
Wynn is young and versatile on the line, not a bad option for a backup tackle behind either Terron Armstead or Austin Jackson. That would leave Ogbuehi to compete for a spot with Kion Smith, Geron Christian and Kendall Lamm as a second backup tackle. Miami also recently drafted potential swing lineman Ryan Hayes in the seventh round and signed LT James Tunstall as an undrafted free agent. As it stands, Wynn and Lamm seem to be best prepared to backup Armstead and Jackson if Miami chooses to keep four tackles on the roster, but don't count out Ogbuehi at backup right tackle.
